onsai Workshop at Staselwood Bonsai Studio
This workshop was a "one on one" type class working on the John's
personal trees.  John, from Pittsburgh, PA. was a great student with
even greater passion for the Art of Bonsai.  Please Enjoy the pictures!
If you would like to schedule a class like this please just contact me.
Thanks John!!

John, brought 4 trees that he had some questions on.  We quickly pulled
them out of the pot and put them on the turntable and started looking for
a front.
This was the chosen side based on branch placement and root spread.
With a large trunk chop on the main leader heading to the left, we had to
create a style that could use this in the design.
It the process of wiring his tree, John has removed a few unnecessary
branches, which was made into Jin's...
the fine wiring on his own.  This "Structure" shaping is the first step in
creating your bonsai.  A few years from now you will have something to
start your refinment on.  The next step is promoting back-budding.
We then started on a Bougainvillea.  It was a straight up tree in the pot
with some really unsightly curves.  By slanting the tree like shown we
have turned a negative and turned it into a positive.  Now the branches
can be wired into place and a windswept can be made.
With some of the wire on, and a new crescent moon pot in spring this
will be a nice flowering windswept.  Again, this is the "structure" wiring
that needs to be done on nursery stock material.  From here you can
develop the ramification to create the foliage masses.
Another nice structure to build upon.  Once this fills in a little in a bit, it will
be a very nice Bonsai.  Nice Job, stay with it!
Here is a quick Paint Virtual of what we discussed.
